Guiding the handpiece
During the measurement, the sleeve of the handpiece may not touch the
tooth.
The distance from the tooth should be 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm. Advance the handpiece as horizontally as possible and at right angles to the center of the facial anatomic coronal surface to the tooth to be examined. |

Deviations from perpendicularity will result in incorrect measurements. |
It is most purposeful to undertake the measurement on a patient setting
upright.
During the measurement, the maxillary superior teeth and mandibular
teeth must have no contact.
The tongue must not contact the teeth too.
Instruct the patient to open his mouth just a little to facilitate
measurement in the lateral zone.
